Responsibilities

Asphalt Emulsions company is seeking a Manufacturing Plant Manager to provide leadership and operational guidance for the safe and cost effective operation of the Greer S.C. operating facility.

 

Key responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:

 

  • Safety, Environmental and Sustainability leadership – driving the safety culture and incident report issuance and investigation.
  • Scheduling of the plant to assure production schedule is met.
  • Coordinate with corporate office resources and management.
  • Work daily with sales team to gain alignment on product capacity and availability.
  • Establishing, sustaining, and improving standard operating systems – driving / coordinating continuous improvement process and quality improvements through sound judgment and maintaining compliance with our DOT certification.   Insures Quality Incident Reports are issued and investigated for deviations of operation and/or quality performance.  Works with BETA Engineers and technicians to address issues and drive continuous improvement.
  • Working with the operations team to manage day-to-day operations and overseeing the development of technicians.
  • Managing area personnel staffing – training metrics, overtime, contractor staffing, OSHA minimum requirements.
  • Area maintenance needs – Work with both contract and company maintenance personnel in driving high, reliable production capability.
  • Quality Leadership and participation – ensuring continuous improvement of quality performance.  Expectation is to lead and mentor a quality program that exceeds all DOT and customer expectations.
  • Drive improvements in operating parameters, such as Yield, Bill of Material accuracy and on time  orders
  • Leadership for uptime metrics including collection of downtime and production interruptions.
  • Oversees shutdown planning & scheduling.
  • Accountable for cost control for the facility including management of plant maintenance, contractors, overtime, and capital.  This cost control includes monthly reporting and explanations of cost deltas versus targets.


Qualifications:

 

Requirements

  • BS Engineer/ or technical degree equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years asphalt related experience desirable
  • Working knowledge of computer systems such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Ability to learn specialized computer systems
  • Demonstration of strong analytical and organizing skills
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
  • Experience with improvement processes and a “5” why approach to problem solving

Sales Manager Position

Asphalt Emulsions company is seeking a Sales Manager to captain our Carolinas sales team. The successful candidate will drive new sales and increase our customer base by strategic marketing to help us sell our pavement preservation products, asphalt cement products, and other new products including those now in development.

 

Your activities will include:

  • Conducting regular onsite visits, make cold calls and communicate with asphalt contractors, public sectors and at our own asphalt plants where we do product manufacturing and testing.
  • Troubleshooting and follow-up on any concerns that may impact sales and internal or external customer satisfaction.
  • Taking charge of customer account activity, including all financial matters.
  • Providing essential information for corporate bid activities.
  • Attending trade and industry shows to promote sales for the company. In particular, representing the company at trade and industry shows in order to attract new business.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50% and stay overnight for any period of time as necessary.

 

Five plus years of asphalt industry and sales experience is preferred, but not necessarily required. The successful candidate must be proficient in relevant computer skills and programs (MS Excel and MS Word) and reside in or be willing to relocate to South Carolina. Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Quality Control Technician

Position involves performing quality control testing on asphalt products at both the lab as well as the field. Conduct tests on Hot Mix Asphalt and component materials to determine compliance to applicable specifications. Assist in mixture adjustment and lay down operation to ensure specification compliance.  Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Aggregate Testing & HMA Production Testing:  sampling, aggregate gradation and mixture volumetric property determination where applicable.
  • Roadway Construction Testing:  temperature, layer thickness, compacted in place density and sampling.

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED and a SC driver’s license, submit a current 3-year MVR when applying, meet minimum company standards (background check and drug screen), possess good communication and basic math skills, be able to follow verbal and written instructions, have basic computer skills and be able and willing to work nights and weekends when required.

SCAPA Job Announcement - Technical Director

 

SCAPA is seeking a full-time Technical Director. The Technical Director will report to the Executive Director of the South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association (SCAPA).  This individual will provide technical assistance to the staff and membership of the South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association in both the public and private arenas.

The Technical Director will be responsible for keeping up with the latest trends and technology in asphalt mix design, pavement design and construction.  Some travel will be required to attend regional or national seminars in order to obtain this information.

The Technical Director will be required to participate in all SCAPA board meetings and serve as the staff consultant to SCAPA Committees, which meet throughout the year.

Home base for this position will be at the SCAPA office in Columbia, SC.

Duties:

  • Frequent visits to agency offices (federal, state, cities and counties), proposed and ongoing projects, and member facilities across South Carolina.
  • Work with the agency as specifications are revised, lead the SCAPA Quality Improvement Committee specification reviews related to hot mix asphalt, and keep members up-to-date on the latest specification changes.  This will require an in-depth knowledge of SCDOT’s specifications, policies, and procedures
  • Attendance at association, county & municipal engineer, and professional meetings.  Increase SCAPA presence with engineers, architects, and owners to help educate them on new agency practices and specifications
  • Keep website updated with pertinent information for SCAPA members
  • Draft technical articles for Association E-Newsletter and national trade publications
  • Technical Marketing to include conducting technical trainings and seminars and participating in speaking engagements at industry conferences
  • Minimum travel of 2 days per week (on average) to visit SCAPA contractor members and project location sites
  • Assist SCAPA with research efforts, to include drafting RFPs for research projects and assisting researchers with industry issues.

 

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Engineering (PE preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the road construction industry in South Carolina (preferred)
  • Level 1, 2, 3 lab technician certification from SCDOT (preferred)
  • Proficient computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office (experience using and analyzing Excel preferred)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

 

In summary, the main responsibilities of the Technical Director with respect to the above duties would be centered on supporting and marketing the use of hot mix asphalt in the state of South Carolina through his or her technical expertise and providing technical support to members. This is a full time position. Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience.
