SCAPA Asphalt Innovation Workshop
The SCAPA Asphalt Innovation Workshop was a tremendous success held earlier this month in Columbia, SC. We had over 60 participants for a day full of great innovation topics that have been proven in other states around the country. We had our industry partners present from the Asphalt Pavement Alliance (Buzz Powell and Mike Skinner), Asphalt Institute (Grover Allen and Dave Johnson), NCAT (Travis Walbeck), Josh Bragg (GDOT), and remote presenters from MDOT (Griffin Sullivan), VWVDOH (Vince Allison), and TopoDOT (Paul DiaGiacobbe). They gave informative topics that included Perpetual Designs, Hi Modified Thick Lifts, Emulsion FDR, PCC Rubblization, Dry GTR, Interlayer Bonding, Automated Survey used in Construction, and a finally a Panel Discussion with all the presenters to answer any questions.
We had great discussions and awesome participation from the attendees. We were excited to provide opportunities for our partners in industry from SCDOT, Several Counties, and of course our SCAPA Producer and Associate Members. We continue to receive outstanding feedback on this workshop with several attendees stating that the event provided great content and was one of the best workshops they have attended in their entire careers. Our goal was for attendees to listen to proven ideas from other states in other states to make our roads perform even better and make good, informed decisions on our pavement here in SC. We can rely on these states’ successes and hopefully feel more comfortable allowing these ideas to grow and possibly implement these into our state.
